The World Of Tzu Chi(Vol.116)
TZU CHI 116 35 Local News One hundred and seventy Tzu Chi Muar volunteers responded to the invitation by the management of the Muar Tao Boo Keng Temple to promote the concept of environmental conservation to members of the public participating in a procession held to celebrate the Nine Emperor Gods Festival. This practice has been adopted by the temple since 2014 to raise public awareness on environmental conservation. Twenty-five waste collection points were stationed along the 5-km route of the procession. The volunteers placed waste classification bins amongst the crowd, besides raising poster boards imparting messages on environmental conservation and retrieving any litter left behind. In 2018, the temple has enforced a rule prohibiting festivalgoers from tossing candies during the festival in a bid to discourage the public from littering.
