TZU CHI 116 31 Nuggets of wisdom Ponder upon inspiring and thought-provoking quotes from the esteemed speakers. Tan Sri Vincent Tan Founder and executive chairman, Berjaya Corp Bhd Josephy Chen Newscaster and news department manager, Da Ai TV Taiwan Chu Jenn Weng Co-founder, CEO and managing director, ViTrox Corp Bhd Gao Ming-zhi Consultant, Neptune Learning After years of persuasion by Tzu Chi members, I finally decided to visit Master Cheng Yen in Hualien. When I was there, I learnt more about Tzu Chi and was impressed by all that the Master has done. To me, she is like a living goddess. I have also decided to embrace vegetarianism. I aspire to receive my certification as a Tzu Chi commissioner this year. I once wondered, “What constitutes meritorious deeds?” I found the answer in Master Cheng Yen’s teachings: “A meritorious deed is as simple as offering a bowl of rice to those who are starving, or a coat to those who are shivering in the cold.” I admire Master Cheng Yen’s management philosophy that emphasizes a caring approach to dealing with people and implementing order with precepts. Therefore, I aim to adopt Tzu Chi’s values at my company to foster a healthy corporate culture. Incorporating the Four All-embracing Virtues – charitable offerings, loving words, beneficial conduct and cooperative deeds – into a company’s management approach benefits all parties, besides enhancing work efficiency and the sustainability of the business.
