New Zealand 2019.07.20 Planting Seeds of Hope for the Environment Tzu Chi volunteers in Indonesia collaborated with the local government of Kapuas Hulu in West Kalimantan and state welfare groups to implement a year-long programme that supports the overall development of children in the village of Mantan. This programme features initiatives that promote the health of women and children, as well as a clean and hygienic living environment. The volunteers distributed garbage bins to each of the 101 households in the village and installed 14 public toilets, besides dispensing quality seeds to the villagers and guiding them in cultivating their own vegetable farm. As a result, the amount of litter strewn around the village has reduced and the level of health awareness among the villagers has increased.
