The World Of Tzu Chi(Vol.114).
TZU CHI 114 39 after school, she also taught them to recite the Al Qur’an, simple Arabic and mathematics, without any books or teaching aids. She initially received a monthly subsidy of 175 Jordanian Dinar (approximately RM 1,038) from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), but it was discontinued in June 2018. As a result, she had to join her brothers working in a farm to help support her family’s livelihood. In order for her to better concentrate on educating the kids, Tzu Chi Jordan began to offer her an allowance since December 2018. When she received the allowance, she did not think about herself. Instead, she planned to buy study tables and chairs for the children. Moved by her generosity, Tzu Chi Jordan offered assistance to fulfil her kind intention. While at school with the children, Khadja also took the opportunity to learn from the teachers’ teaching methods. Her dedication won her praises from Chiou-hwa and qualified her as a formal teacher. During their visit to the Huweyja tent area in March 2019, the volunteers also brought 150 sets of study supplies, as well as ballpoint pens with LED lights from Tzu Chi Taiwan. Although the pens were precious to the children living in the tent area without electricity supply, a child returned an extra pen that he received to a volunteer. His honesty touched the volunteers’ hearts. Education as guiding light “We owned four big farms back in Syria, but now, our extended family of 700 households are separated and living apart,” shared Khadja, adding that it was the happiest night for her family in their seven years in Jordan. After the gathering ended at 10 pm, Chiou- hwa presented a gift from Master De Shan to Khadja. It was a solar-powered table lamp that Master De Shan from the Jing Si Abode had been using, but she had decided to give it to Khadja as she was moved by the latter’s kindness. To the Syrian refugee children, education brings hope for their future. The children in the Huweyja tent area are indeed fortunate to have the guidance of Teacher Khadja.
