TZU CHI 113 47 Global News At midnight on June 25, 2019, a fire engulfed the village of Panipahan, situated in the town of Pasir Limau Kapas, Rokan Hilir District of Riau Province, destroying 21 houses and causing severe damage to 8 others. Fortunately, there were no casualties. On the 27th, seven volunteers from Medan, Tebing Tinggi and Kisaran departed for Panipahan – located approximately 400 km from Medan – to conduct disaster relief efforts. Upon arrival, the volunteers surveyed the site of the fire incident, consoled the fire victims and distributed cash aid to help them rebuild their lives. Indonesia 2019.06.27 Extending Aid across Hundreds of Kilometres During the premiere of the documentary “Walking Dharma” on June 27, 2019, Cai Jin-tian, a Taitung native and the recipient of Taiwan’s 2015 Presidential Award for Education, shared the stage with one of the benefactors in her academic journey, Taiwan’s former president Ma Ying-jeou. Jin-tian excelled in her studies as a student of National Taitung University Affiliated Physical Education Senior High School. The key figure behind her success was the late volunteer Yu Hui-hsiung, who is one of the featured personalities in the documentary. The Taitung-based personalities highlighted in “Walking Dharma” were presented with a collage portrait at the premiere in Taipei, where they extended an invitation to all present to bear witness to their stories when the film is released in theatres.
