The World Of Tzu Chi(Vol.113)

TZU CHI 113 25 at Mun Jen’s invitation. “Even as a newcomer to the Support Group back then, I felt welcome as the volunteers were very accommodating. No one knew I was a cancer patient. I served with the registration team before moving on to the programming team,” she said. Her brush with cancer only surfaced upon her appointment as the “Sunshine Ambassador” for the Support Group. Even so, she ruefully wished that her sister would have had the chance to join theSupportGroupwhen shewas alive. She was drawn to the warm camaraderie and genuine concern shared among the Support Group, giving her a sense of belonging. Her involvement in the Support Group had also inculcated in her the virtue of thoughtfulness, prompting her to be more patient towards her customers. After being stricken with cancer, Siew Ching adjusted her working hours to spare time for pursuing her interests in arts and education, such as Zentangle, Pastel Nagomi art and exploring the Waldorf approach to education. She has even attained the necessary certification to qualify as a tutor in Zentangle and Pastel Nagomi art. Whenever she visits cancer patients, she would present them with her Zentangle drawings and Pastel Nagomi paintings as gifts. Siew Ching now prioritizes her Tzu Chi commitments, the dates of which she would dutifully pen in her diary before filling in her work schedule. She is currently attending volunteer training courses, with the hope of successfully receiving her certification as a Tzu Chi Commissioner. She has also resolved to spend more time engaging in meaningful pursuits. “I wish I could do more to raise awareness on the Cancer Support Group before time runs out, because life is too short to be wasted,” she declared. There is life beyond cancer! We warmly welcome you and your family to join the Tzu Chi Cancer Support Group.
