The world of Tzu Chi (Vol.111)
32 2019 • 06 The tea-serving ceremony left a meaningful impact on the families in attendance. Yong Siew Ping and her younger sister, Yong Chai Nee took turns to serve tea to their parents as a token of gratitude for their unconditional love and care. The sisters’mother, Lee Yoke Lin, then served tea to her own mother in a multi-generational gesture of filial piety (Top left). The occasion made Mother’s Day all the more memorable for the President of Han Culture Centre, Dato’ Goh Hin San and his family, who returned this year to participate in the tea-serving ceremony after participating in the foot-bathing ceremony four years ago left a deep impression on them (Top right). Meanwhile, ErwinYong Ee (2nd from right) repented the times when he upset his parents by disobeying them as he went down on his knees to serve them a cup of tea. He has become more understanding of his parents’ sacrifices with each passing year, and has gradually come to realize the importance of prioritizing his filial obligations (Bottom). The ceremony provided an opportunity for families to set aside their inhibitions and express their affection and appreciation for each other, be it through serving tea or tender hugs.
