The world of Tzu Chi (Vol.111)

2019 • 06 26 pecial Feature Reflections by overseas dignitaries HE Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia HE Pascal H. Gregoire, Ambassador of Belgium to Malaysia HE Juhlin-Dannfelt opined that the concept of embracing vegetarianism is in keeping with pressing environmental issues, as the world is facing increasing threats to nature. “We, as human beings, are living beyond the limits of what nature can deliver or produce. We are no longer in harmony with nature and our planet,” he noted, before adding that his family is striving to reduce their consumption of meat; his eldest daughter practises vegetarianism. HE Gregoire described his experience of participating in the Ceremony as a celebration of peace, harmony and joy that transcends religion. The main takeaway from the concept of vegetarianism, for HE Gregoire, is that it is “not so much about [following a] diet, but respecting all kinds of life, as we are all related”, adding that he is all for fostering greater harmony among all beings on Earth. Professor Tamara Boscia, Cultural Officer, Embassy of Italy in Malaysia This was Prof Boscia’s first time attending a Buddha Bathing Ceremony, which left her in awe of the air of venerable formality surrounding the event. She also acknowledged the effort invested in coordinating such a large number of participants in order to present an orderly formation, and was moved by the wholehearted immersion of the participants in this display of spiritual devotion.
