2019 • 05 36 Local News For the past decade, SJK (C) Yuk Chai, Petaling Jaya, has been adopting recycling practices, which have been well-received by parents and students alike. This has spurred the school to initiate an Environmental Awareness Day to raise greater awareness on the concept of recycling and environmental conservation among teachers and students. Tzu Chi volunteers were present at the occasion to conduct four sharing sessions, featuring informative talks on recycling- related topics, storytelling sessions by Great Love Mothers and a drama presentation by students highlighting environmental issues. Principal Chew Hock Jin noted that it is imperative to educate students on environmental conservation in their formative years to instil in them the importance of protecting Mother Earth. The event was attended by 64 kidney patients under Tzu Chi’s care and their families, as well as nephrologists and clinical dieticians who generously shared their expertise. The kidney patients found mutual support by exchanging their personal experiences in dealing with their illness. Dr Lim Soo Kun, Head of the Renal Division at the University Malaya Medical Centre and a TIMA member, readily answered questions from the kidney patients in attendance, in addition to offering insights on making informed lifestyle changes to cope with the demands of their condition.
