[Photograph courtesy of Gan Quee Goon] An extraordinary mother-in-law “I ventured into Tzu Chi, thanks to my mother-in-law,” revealed Teik Lee, who is grateful for Sok Chu’s guidance in connecting him to Tzu Chi. It started on one occasion when Teik Lee borrowed Sok Chu’s laptop, and was left in awe by the photos and videos stored in the laptop, all documenting Tzu Chi’s activities. He saw images of Sok Chu taking part in recycling efforts, comforting poor families, organizing and participating in Tzu Chi’s events. Regardless of the task at hand, the look of contentment and joy on Sok Chu’s face remained. Teik Lee was touched to see his mother- in-law, despite being an elderly retiree, striving to give back to society. From the videos, he learnt about the endeavours of Tzu Chi volunteers and the nature of the Tzu Chi organization. From then on, Teik Lee was convinced that Sok Chu was not the average mother-in-law. He started paying attention to all things about Tzu Chi.
