The world of Tzu Chi December 2024 (Vol.152)
11 TZU CHI 152 bond with her students. During Christmas, she organised an online party, complete with games and a lucky draw, where gifts were delivered to winners through online shopping platforms. These efforts turned routine class activities into something students anticipate, and punctual attendance, focused listening, and active questioning became what they genuinely enjoyed. At an online parent-teacher meeting, Sook Chen shared that previously, it was almost impossible for an active Jiahui to sit still in class. However, captivated by the interesting maths lessons and rewards, her interest in maths grew stronger, and she would even quiz her father with maths questions. Every year, she would also worry that Teacher Lim might not continue teaching her. The mother’s words deeply moved Fang Yee, who had once considered leaving “i·didik” due to her busy work schedule. She recalled that as a child, she dreamed of becoming a teacher. “Teaching is not easy,” she reflected, “but isn’t it a teacher’s mission to transmit knowledge and guide students towards success?” For Fang Yee, her students’ progress serves as motivation and a reminder to cherish her role as a tutor. “Seeing my students grow and improve makes all my efforts worthwhile. I hope to stay with this group of students until they finish primary school,” she said with determination. She expressed her gratitude for the trust and encouragement from the Subject Support Team, parents, and volunteers. Learning that “i·didik” has provided meaningful educational support to students and eased the parents’ burdens fills her with joy and reinforces her belief in the value of her work. Lim Fang Yee has found an approach that keeps students focused and interested. The students’ growth is also her motivation for teaching.
