The world of Tzu Chi December 2024 (Vol.152)

09 TZU CHI 152 Tan Wei Nee appreciates the opportunity to teach for “i∙didik”. As long as students want to learn, she is willing to spend time teaching them. encouraged to reach out to Wei Nee anytime he faced difficulties in learning or pronunciation. This open line of communication boosted his enthusiasm, and with diligent practice, he showed steady improvement. Wei Nee shared, “I observed that students in my class have varied English proficiency levels. This intimidated the weaker students, preventing them from asking questions.” Recognising this, she adjusted her approach by offering extra tutoring sessions for those who struggled. These one-on-one or one-on-two revision sessions allowed students to express themselves more freely and understand the learning materials better, resulting in significant progress. Although these extra sessions consumed most of her evenings, Wei Nee did not think her leisure time was sacrificed. Instead, she felt energised and a deep sense of fulfilment each time a student called to confirm their extra class. She views these moments not just as opportunities to teach, but also to connect more deeply with her students and listen to their thoughts. This January, at the “i·didik” Award and Appreciation Ceremony held at the KL Tzu- Chi Jing Si Hall, Wei Nee was honoured as one of the programme’s role model teachers. For her, the recognition was not just an accolade but a powerful encouragement to continue her journey. “As long as my time and energy allow, I am happy to help more students,” she affirmed. “I hope ‘i·didik’ will continue for many years, enabling more students in need to benefit and grow.” Watch the related videos:
