The world of Tzu Chi September 2024 (Vol.151)

TZU CHI 151 29 The Tzu Chi Youth Orchestra Long Island travelled over 15,000 km from the U.S. to Malaysia, bringing a wonderful musical feast to the audience while raising funds for the stateless families in Sabah. The melodious tunes, accompanied by footage depicting the challenging lives of stateless individuals, evoked a sense of compassion from the audience. Yeannie Wong choked up as she shared, “Parents always want the best for their children, but the parents of these stateless children can’t afford it. I hope those of us who’re capable can help those in need.” Love echoed through the Jing Si Halls during the ten-day tour from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca, Muar, and Singapore, reaching the impoverished stateless families in East Malaysia. The International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) provided a platform for teams from around the world to share their cutting-edge inventions. Three secondary school students from Tzu Chi International School Kuala Lumpur participated in the World Young Investors Exhibition (WYiE) held concurrently and won a silver award with their project, “FloodBlox”. When a flood occurs, the FloodBlox will rapidly form protective walls around crops to block water ingress, and during drought, it can store water for irrigation. This invention not only demonstrated the students’ understanding and application of knowledge, but also their awareness and action towards environmental protection.
