The world of Tzu Chi September 2024 (Vol.151)

09 TZU CHI 151 Thanks to education, Irfana is now more confident about life. we wouldn’t have the confidence to stand up and accomplish anything, or we wouldn’t trust ourselves anymore.” Yi Ting, who frequently interacts with refugees, also deeply understands the challenge of reigniting hope in children who have not received an education. She firmly believes that education can help children dream bigger and recognise their standing with all other people. Knowing the importance of education, Irfana continues to upskill herself, studying English in her spare time. “Learning is my motivation every day. I believe that even though I have chosen a career, my quest for knowledge can still go on.” Today, life is steadily improving for Irfana’s family. Reflecting on their past, her father, Eisa, shared emotionally, “If you were to ask me what I fear the most, it’s not death, as death is fleeting. Instead, I dread reliving the hardships of the past…” He revealed that during the family’s most difficult times, Irfana and her brother experienced hunger, which instilled in her a sense of frugality and appreciation. Now, even when she is exhausted after work, she prefers to walk for half an hour to save on transportation costs for the family’s emergency needs. Eisa is filled with gratitude for the kind- hearted people they encountered in Malaysia, who supported his children’s education and embraced the family with warmth and care. “Every day, I pray for Allah to bless those who have helped us, and to bless my family only if there are any blessings left…” His sincere gratitude is deeply moving. Had the doors of education not opened for her, where would Irfana be?
