TZU CHI 149 31 Activating kindness daily I, too, want to contribute A new insight Photo by Ivan Ooi Photo by Sia Ah Tong Photo by Ho Wing Hong P ang Hee Long, a Tzu Chi donor, participates in the Year- End Blessing event annually with his wife and daughter. The skit “50 Cents Can Save Lives” enlightened him that saving in the coin bank daily signifies activating kindness daily. He therefore decided to change his donation pattern from once a year to a daily practice. Speaking about Master’s call for vegetarianism, he shared that he became a vegetarian to pray for improved health for his father-in-law. However, he later realised that “every piece of meat equates to taking a life”. This epiphany has driven him to embrace vegetarianism until today. S omali refugeeMaymun, who has been participating inTzu Chi's monthly Recycling Day activities with her children, was touched to see Tzu Chi's global acts of compassion. She shared, “The volunteers told me that doing recycling work is a way to help others in need.” Having received help from Tzu Chi, she hopes to participate in more Tzu Chi activities and contribute her efforts to repay society. I nfluenced by a friend’s account, Chin Chi Gang had misconceptions about Tzu Chi. After witnessing the volunteers’ relief effort and response to disasters and suffering through a documentary video, he gained a new insight into Tzu Chi. The convergence of volunteers from different religious and ethnic backgrounds for the greater good moved him deeply. He said, “This is beyond religion. It is really about having love; only then can you achieve such Great Love.”
