The world of Tzu Chi December 2023 (Vol.148)

TZU CHI 148 13 I like it here! Nine-year-old Cheong Ian Xin eagerly approached the “House of Aedes Mosquitoes”, exclaiming, “I want to play! I want to play!” He picked up the cards and rotated them to observe the appearance of the vector mosquito for dengue fever, its breeding grounds, and four life stages in an augmented reality environment, before testing his understanding through game cards. After experiencing a few other interactive games, he shared his excitement, saying, “My favourite is the running game. While running, I encountered viruses, vaccines, masks, and even bird droppings falling from the sky. I had to drink water, take vaccines, and grab the masks to earn points.” As it turned out, the boy was referring to “The Immunisation Speedster”, where participants run and dodge left and right to avoid virus attacks, and pick up good epidemic prevention habits. Despite his young age, Ian Xin gained valuable knowledge through the games. He said, “I learned how to prevent mosquitoes and viruses. Wearing a mask and getting vaccinated can help prevent viruses, while clearing standing water at home can prevent mosquitoes from breeding. I like it here because I can play games and learn. I will introduce this exhibition to my friends and invite them to visit together.” All information is presented in both English and Chinese languages. Visitors are free to explore whichever exhibition stations according to their preferences. [Photo by Teng Pick Cheang]
