2021 • 12 44 Whole-food Plant-based Bento for Medical Personnel As hospitals in Sabah suburbs faced a shortage of medical supplies, Tzu Chi volunteers arranged for a truck to deliver medical supplies and equipment to Klinik Kesihatan Tandek, for distribution to institutions that needed them, including the hospitals in Kudat, Pitas and Kota Marudu. Director of Pitas Hospital, Dr. Gerald Marcus said, “With this help, we will be more comfortable, in the sense that we will have enough stock.” As of October 20, 2021, Tzu Chi had provided more than 1,600 units of medical supplies, such as high-flow nasal cannulas, ICU beds, patient monitoring systems and syringe pumps, to 26 hospitals in East Malaysia. Sabah 16.10.2021 Report & photo by Tse Ning Siong Following the provision of medical supplies and equipment to medical institutions, Tzu Chi KL & Selangor initiated the “Great Love Plant-based Bento” programme to provide healthy and nutritious lunches to medical personnel. Dr. Ling Chiu Yun from Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang remarked that the food was healthy and tasty, and the menu changed daily. She and her colleagues looked forward to their lunches. Kressna Davahran, a pharmacist with Ampang Hospital, felt her body was lighter and that she would not get tired easily after participating in the bento programme. The programme which ran five days a week for a month has benefitted 474 medical personnel from seven medical institutions.
