The world of Tzu Chi Nov-Dec 2021 (Vol.138)
TZU CHI 138 39 blue back then,” LimWhey said. The uniforms gave the couple a sense of belonging and they have become more involved in Tzu Chi activities since then. In 2000, the couple met Master Cheng Yen at a recycling training camp in Taiwan. It was the Master who inspired them to further their involvement with Tzu Chi and affirmed their aspirations to do good. They started to encourage others to start recycling, and to date, they have opened recycling points in Dengkil, Tanjung Sepat, Banting and Sepang. “If I counted correctly, we have been doing recycling for 22 years,” Kon Loy said. A heart that loves unconditionally Over the years, they had gained insights and experiences from Tzu Chi and the most memorable one was when they volunteered as part of the Tzu-Cheng and Yi-Te Association 1 . Flipping through their photo albums, Kon Loy stumbled upon a photo that had obviously aged, especially with its yellow tints. It was special to him because it showed him dressed smartly in a graduation robe, standing next to a Tzu Ching graduate student. “I had never received an education, even more so wearing a graduation robe. If it weren’t for Tzu Chi, how could I have this chance?” his voice was one of sheer joy and gratitude. When the couple volunteered as a Tzu Chi Mum and Dad for students in Multimedia University (Cyberjaya campus), they were concerned about their lack of education, and were apprehensive about communicating with college students. However, Kim Seng assured them that what mattered most was the willingness to love someone unconditionally. Besides, the university was close to their home. “When I heard Brother Kim Seng’s encouragement, I felt we should give it a try,” Lim Whey said. There are certainly no regrets. Most of the college students came from different states, so they treated them like their own children, such as taking them to the clinic when they were sick, and sending meals to their dormitories. The couple’s sincerity and affection had won over the hearts of the students, and they started to forge a close bond. “Once, I was invited to give a sharing on stage to college students at a Tzu Ching event, I was very nervous because I felt I was teaching a fish how to swim, but they gave me a warm applause after I had finished sharing. There was another time when eight Tzu Ching graduates went back to Taiwan to be certified as Tzu Chi commissioners, and words could not describe how happy I was because they are Tzu Chi’s future who would carry on the Master’s It is all about gratitude for Kon Loy (left), especially to Master Cheng Yen for establishing Tzu Chi, and to fellow volunteer Ang Kim Seng (right) and his wife for introducing him to Tzu Chi.
