The world of Tzu Chi September-October 2021 (Vol.137)

2021 • 10 44 olistic Education stood at that moment, we also explained to them the objectives of the Solidarity Fund. Through these, we encouraged them to care for society and instill in them the core values of gratitude, respect and love,” said Principal Lim. After discussions, teachers for the Humanistic Culture subject gave their students a task—to make thank-you cards to express their gratitude, care and well wishes to frontline medical personnel. Through their drawings, the students cheered the frontliners and thanked them for fighting tirelessly on the frontline. Showing appreciation Hew Wen Yen, a Year 2 student, invited 15 of her friends—TCISKL school mates, former Da Ai Kindergarten classmates and neighbours—to join her in the card-making. They managed to produce about 300 blessing cards in five days. Their vivid and colourful drawings portray pictures of medical personnel’s success in defeating the virus, conveying the message that through unity we can emerge winners in this battle. Besides frontline medical personnel, the children did not forget volunteers serving at the Jing Si Hall vaccination centre, whose charitable and helpful spirit is equally admirable. As it was unsafe for children to go out due to the pandemic, on July 10, Chue Yun Qing, a former Da Ai Kindergarten student, requested her mother, Lee Mei Ling, to deliver some blessing cards to Wen Yen’s mother, WongYoke Mei, who was on duty at the Jing Si Hall vaccination centre. The latter then passed the cards to TIMA volunteers Dr. LongKarmen andYip SookYing, to present them to volunteers at the vaccination centre. Holding the blessing cards with a Jing Si aphorism and thank-you note on them, the volunteers could feel the love and thoughtfulness put into them. Mei Ling said, “Yun Qing was bored staying at home during the movement control order. Thankfully, Wen Yen invited her to participate in such a meaningful activity. Although tired, she stayed up until 12 midnight to draw the ten cards she produced.” Yoke Mei on the other hand, was grateful for the mother- daughter duo’s dedication, which had added to the power of love. Despite their young age, the pre-schoolers of the TCISKL kindergarten also did their part with their parents’assistance. The teachers shared with them the critical situation in the country, and that some people had to hoist a white flag for help, before guiding them to donate in the bamboo coin bank to help the needy. Yong Mei Teng, head of TCISKL kindergarten shared, “Our teachers would guide the students to count the money they have saved in the coin banks during Math lessons. The parents will then transfer the same amount to the bank account for the Malaysia Solidarity Covid-19 Fund spearheaded by Tzu Chi.
