The world of Tzu Chi September-October 2021 (Vol.137)

2021 • 10 38 always remained calm and easy despite her losing her temper. Although Granny Lim’s wound had healed, it was not fully cured and had relapsed repeatedly over the years. This resulted in dark patches on the skin of the foot, and it was prone to injury. Due to her foot problem, walking up and down the stairs became an issue. She also had to use a walker when she went out. Her legs became weaker in these two years, and it has become harder for her to walk. As such, she would only go downstairs a few times a week to buy some daily necessities. Fortunately, there was a vegetarian restaurant nearby that offers door-to-door food delivery services, taking care of her daily meals. Chu Mooi was also concerned that Granny Lim did not have a landline for phone, and her mobile phone was often unreachable due to poor signals. In addition, there was security concern in the area. Once, Granny Lim could not unlock her door as the door lock had been glued by some pranksters. Also, climbing up and down the dim stairway had posed a risk for falls. All these were a cause for worry. Therefore, when Chu Mooi learnt that Mee Moy had found for Tzu Chi care recipient Yap Woon and his wife, a unit on the ground floor of an apartment in Pandan Indah, with a spare room in the unit, she proposed to Granny Lim to move in there. This way, the granny and the couple could also take care of one another. Initially, Granny Lim was not interested. Later, Mee Moy persuaded her to reconsider. She told Granny Lim that she had managed to get in touch with her younger sister, who had, in fact, came to granny’s place, but did not meet her as she felt the surrounding was unsafe. Mee Moy pointed out to Granny Lim that her younger sister would feel more comfortable visiting her if she moves over to the new place with a better environment. After two months of persuasion, Granny Lim finally followed the volunteers to take a look at the new place. Everything about the unit in terms of ambience, cleanliness, security and its quiet surrounding, as well as the friendliness of the Yaps, were positive factors leading to her final decision to move over. The Nobleman Star On the day of the move, it was drizzling but volunteers were there to help. When Granny Lim made a final inspection of her belongings, she saw her suits bought more than a decade ago, and souvenirs collected from overseas trips. She asked for these to be given away to anyone who fancied them. When Mee Moy suggested that she took some albums of her overseas trips along instead of leaving them in the old house, in case she would like to reminisce the old memories, she replied, “Learn to let go,” and left the house and its memory behind. Upon arriving at her new room, Granny Lim smiled gladly when she saw the delicately done up bedroom that the volunteers had prepared for her. Mee Moy then told her that arrangement for her daily meals had been made and Yap Woon, who is a taxi driver, could take her if she needs to go out or see a doctor. Granny Lim could tell that the volunteers did all these out of genuine Great Love. She ouching Life Story
