Volunteer Eng Kean Kee was responsible for coordinating the distribution in his community. He admitted that his family was naturally worried about him. However, he said, “Just keep our positive energy, observe the SOPs strictly, and do the right thing with an impartial mind and love in our hearts.” At the distribution sites, the volunteers also read aloud messages from Master Cheng Yen. Many beneficiaries not only felt the Master’s love and care for them, but also understood that kindness and vegetarianism are ways to ward off the pandemic. They took out changes and donated to the coin bank. Some beneficiaries even brought home a coin bank, in response to Tzu Chi volunteers’ call to give rise to good thoughts and do good deeds daily. At the end of August, the Government relaxed some restrictions and businesses gradually resumed operations. However, some people still faced difficulties making a living. Thus, the Food Care project continued in September, but was changed to bi-weekly distribution with two weeks’ food supplies, so as to reduce risks of infections considering the high number of daily new Covid-19 cases, which hit 20,000 at one point. The project that lasted for two months had enabled the provision of 45,481 sets of food supplies, for 203,793 persons. Bags of neatly arranged food supplies were ready for distribution.
