TZU CHI 135 41 Local News Sending Food to University Campus Under EMCO Since May 15, 2021, Tzu Chi volunteers in Raub has begun delivering free vegetarian meals (lunch and dinner) to the elderly living alone and home quarantine individuals in Kampung Sempalit and Kampung Sungai Ruan, considering that it may be difficult and inconvenient for them to buy ingredients or food during the enhanced MCO period. The effort was affirmed by National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) with a reminder to adhere to proper, safe food handling procedures. As of May 21, Tzu Chi had delivered 1,149 meals to the folks who needed the service. In order to break the virus chain, the Government instructed Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), which had recorded a total of 28 confirmed cases, to impose enhanced MCO, prohibiting the students from leaving the campus until May 2, 2021. Students living in the two residential colleges off campus were also prohibited from leaving their hostel vicinity. Upon receiving a request for food assistance from a university professor, who is also a hostel warden, Tzu Chi volunteers delivered rice, instant noodles, eggs, biscuits and other food supplies to more than 200 students on April 17, thereby allowing them to focus on their studies without having to worry about food.
