TZU CHI 135 23 Since October 2004, Tzu Chi has been working together with UNHCR to safeguard refugees’ rights of survival, providing basic living needs, medical care and education. Living needs The CBI project has made 9,875 provisions to refugee households from 2016 to May 2021, with over 29,000 volunteer participations. Education The refugee schools, jointly run by Tzu Chi and UNHCR, have provided education opportunities with 4,680 student enrolments since 2008. There are currently two schools, namely, Harmony School and Unity School. Medical care From 2016 to March 2021, Tzu-Chi Free Clinics in Kuala Lumpur and Klang have given more than 130,000 consultations/treatments to refugees, while the medical outreach programme has recorded more than 15,000 consultations/treatments to different communities in Klang Valley. Tzu Chi International Medical Association (TIMA) started to organize medical outreaches at SJK(C) Kheow Bin in Selayang since more than a decade ago, to safeguard the health of refugees. The medical outreach programmes were suspended in 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Tzu-Chi Free Clinic has continued to provide medical care to the refugees.
