By Kong Siew Yen Translated by Lee Hui Yieng Photograph by Lai Nyok Chan A s power was interrupted in Mentakab and Temerloh, Pahang in the aftermath of the flood, and the affected folks were occupied with clean-up, Tzu Chi volunteers ordered packed meals from several vegetarian restaurants to be delivered to them. “Upon learning of the cause, some restaurant owners offered to sponsor hundreds of meal packs right away. Some Tzu Chi donors and public members also gathered their friends to cook at their homes for the cause. Hence, almost half of the meal packs were contributed by the community,” related volunteer Lee Sek Wan. One of the kind Samaritans was Jou Jooi Sang, who runs an eatery. He agreed to cook and sponsor 200 meal packs for the flood victims when volunteer Lai Nyok Chan told him about the relief effort. He said, “Over the years, whenever there is a disaster here, Tzu Chi is there to help.
