TZU CHI 131 37 Immediate Relief Aid for Deluged Pahang Benta, Pahang (Lee Choong Kong) When I was seven (year 1971), our newly built house was flooded. I did not expect it to happen again 50 years later, and in a worse scale. My kids and I stayed awake all night as the downpour continued. The water rose slowly in the afternoon but it became rapid in the evening; and by midnight, my house was almost submerged in water. Benta, Pahang (Low Kuan Wat) The water came so quickly that I had to evacuate my home without my motorbike, important documents and other items. My roof and ceilings were all damaged. Ulu Tiram, Johor (Harun) The river swelled around 7 a.m. and the water level rose swiftly. Unlike before, we could not retrieve any possessions this time. Kota Tinggi, Johor (Salimah) My kitchenware was stained with mud and home appliances were damaged. I felt helpless looking at the dirty mess. Pengerang, Johor (Xing Xi Guang) We have been staying here for decades and this is the first time a massive flood had hit. My wife and I evacuated to higher ground hastily. The water level rose to about four feet. The seafood we kept in six freezers were all spoilt; this incurred quite a heavy loss.
