2020 • 12 36 Helping to set up isolation centre By Tan Chee Kong & Tse Ning Siong Photograph by Goh Yoong Khooi I n early October, Labuan saw a drastic rise in Covid-19 cases. This necessitated the Labuan Hospital’s set up of a second isolation centre to cope with the increase. Hearing that Tzu Chi chapters in Keningau and Kota Kinabalu provided assistance in material supplies to isolation centres, Dr. Tan Chee Kong, a paediatrician and a TIMA member, immediately approached Tzu Chi for help; at the same time, the Hospital prepared a formal request to Tzu Chi. Labuan With joint effort from Tzu Chi Keningau and Kota Kinabalu, and the Tzu Chi volunteers in Labuan, 160 mattress and pillow sets, and 41 industrial fans (on loan), were sent from Kota Kinabalu to Labuan within three days. According to Dr. Tan, over 70 new cases were recorded for Labuan on October 28. As the first isolation centre at Jalan Sungai Lada was operating at its capacity, he was thankful that the second isolation centre, accommodating 135 to 140 beds, was set up expeditiously. The Hospital staff and Tzu Chi volunteers efficiently got over 100 beds ready. pecial Feature
