• Storing well is not organizing well. • Keep only items that will be used. • Opt for light and single colour storage tools in uniform size. • Store items vertically for easy retrieval. • Apply the 7:5:3 storage rule: 7 (hidden, e.g., cabinets and drawers); 5 (visible, e.g., glass cabinets); 3 (showcase, e.g., display cabinets). • Replan storage based on lifestyle (frequency of use). • Know the exact quantity and location, apply association logic (keep frequently used items at easily accessible and retrievable spots). Storage methods 1. Do not overstock on daily necessities • They can be bought conveniently from physical or online stores. 2. Screen regularly to remove damaged and not-in-use items • Our needs and tastes change over time. Reconsider space requirements and the types of things needed. 3. Go for quality not quantity • Limiting the number of items will reduce maintenance and space, enhancing quality. For example, buy a good quality mug that you like instead of ten cheap mugs. Using things that you like will uplift your mood. 4. Replace gifts with experiences • Replace gifts with group outings or activities (e.g., painting sessions or attending a course). A memory is better than an object. 1. Sort (find a right place for each item). 2. Store (use storage tools; plan based on the items and your living habits). 3. Clean (wipe, wash and maintain regularly). Things to take note post organizing Organizing TZU CHI 129 15 Decluttering–The Art of Living
