2020 • 06 32 pecial Feature Seven-year-old Peh Rou Jing and her younger cousin, Kow Rou En, eagerly presented their grandparents, volunteers Kow Yew Boon and Ong Saw Tin with specially-prepared, heart-warming “gifts” in conjunction with the triple celebration of Buddha Day, Mother’s Day and Tzu Chi Day. Budding seeds of filial piety P eh Rou Jing and KowRou En are the young granddaughters of volunteer couple Kow Yew Boon and Ong Saw Tin. Since young, Rou Jing has been left in Saw Tin’s care by her mother, who is occupied with work. On the other hand, Yew Boon’s son decided to send Rou En to Malaysia from Thailand to enrol in Da Ai Kindergarten in hopes of securing quality education for her, leaving her in Saw Tin’s care as well. By Tan Kim Hion Photographs by Yong Mun Fei On May 10, 2020, Yew Boon and Saw Tin changed into their volunteer uniforms to participate in the online broadcast of the Buddha Bathing Ceremony held at the Jing Si Abode in Hualien. Similarly, Rou Jing, a student at Tzu Chi International School Kuala Lumpur, and Rou En, who studies at Da Ai Kindergarten, were neatly clad in their school uniforms in preparation for the ceremony.
