TZU CHI 113 45 Tzu Chi Malacca volunteers were invited to spread the message of environmental conservation at the Go Green Campaign 2019 held at Wisma Negeri Melaka by the Malacca State Health Department. Dr Normazura, the head of the Occupational Health and Environment Unit, acknowledged Tzu Chi’s persistent efforts in protecting the environment and expressed her willingness to work with Tzu Chi to raise awareness on environmental conservation among the public. In addition, the volunteers conducted talks on environmental conservation and demonstrated ways to incorporate environmentally-friendly practices in daily life. Besides donating 72 kg of used paper to Tzu Chi, the State Department of Health plans to organize a joint visit with the District Department of Health to the Tzu Chi Malacca Recycling Education Centre to gain deeper insights on environmental conservation. They were then led by local volunteers in collecting recyclables along the streets and at various tourist spots on the island before sorting the recyclables accordingly. Volunteer Heng Bok Meng demonstrated the method of extracting PET bottles from the collection hatch and depositing them into repurposed fishing nets. The children were fascinated by the novel method of sorting recyclables using fishing nets, while several participating parents expressed their intention to engage in environmental conservation efforts with their children to preserve the environment for future generations.
