The locals regarded the landslide as themost severe disaster in the history of the village, which is situated 21 km away from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah’s capital. Approximately 350 villagers were affected in the aftermath of the landslide as sunken land gave way to a deep pit, complicating the journey of Tzu Chi volunteers who were dispatched to the disaster site to assess the situation, compelling them to travel on foot to the disaster site to deliver the relief supplies by hand, with the villagers leading the way. The volunteers distributed sustenance kits, clean clothes and financial aid to comfort the disaster victims.
