REUNION 2022

That was all it took to be gravely informed of a major news event breaking - one that changed the world forever. The world came to a sudden standstill as everyone held their collective breaths. This tragedy travelled across the globe, if not the entire solar system, informing each and every being regarding the devastating news. The news spread like wildfire, doing so unsurprisingly. The clock struck at exactly 3 in the morning as I landed securely on the ground of Ga;viar, my homeland. Soaring through the sky for a tortuous thirteen hours had been excruciatingly tiring. As the aeroplane glided exhaustingly towards our designated gate, a sudden shriek echoed through the period of dead-silent aircraft. A plethora of similar noises followed soon after. Curiosity crept under my skin as a confused expression took over my face. Muffled mumbling made its way from its birth spot to where I remained securely seated. “The Queen has passed” “Impossible”, I thought. Suspicions of the Queen being “immortal” was a famous belief shared by many. I was, too, devoted to those suspicions. Though my face remained as expressionless as a scarecrow’s, a million thoughts were flashing in my head. Could it have just been a rumour created with the intention to create drama? Could they just be talking about another Queen? The latter made the most sense to me. They must be talking about another Queen, and not the one most famously known for her 7- years of service and devotion to Galviar. If I had a million wishes, I’d spend them all on wishing that it were not true. I wished it was all a rumour, an attempt to stir the pot. But it wasn’t. Queen Victoria II, my mother had just passed away peacefully in her slumber just mere hours ago. Her powerful reign had ultimately come to an end. The timing in which death had stopped on her doorstep was beyond unexpected as she had been in the pink of health. I was a short car drive away from seeing her, formerly alive and well. Now, I am a short car drive away from seeing the white piece of cloth covering her sourless body. The impact she had on the world as a leader forever remains implemented in people’s hearts , especially mine. Student Work 216
