Y9 English Writing Mun Zhen Yip Y9 CFD Title: That One Day “Brrring…!” The loud, earsplitting bells rang in a peal. I was filled with exhilaration that school was finally over. Along with a long sigh, I grasped on to my blazing pink school bag and careened down the stairs at the speed of light without hesitation. Approaching outside the dusty stairs, it was nice to feel the fresh breeze of air outside after the long lockdown due to the pandemic. The sun was shining brightly and sweat couldn’t help but slide down my skin as if it was a water slide. The wind swirled around me, unsettling the hot ground beneath my feet. A couple of seconds later, a voluble commotion sprang from the school gates caught my attention. There was a sea of people who seemed to be surrounding an object. My legs voluntarily sprang towards the scene to find out more. The crowd was a circus by its own as the vibrant colours of the clothes worn by the people moved like an enchanting shoal of fish. “What’s going on?” I exclaimed. I thought nobody could hear me so I raised my voice until I was unable to catch my breath. Still, the response was the same. I got nothing by silence. Being ignored, it really tested my patience. My blood began to boil as hot as lava. I exploded and stormed into the large crowd with rage to the sense that I was a raindrop protesting to join the ocean. As I excitedly dashed towards the centre of the crowd, the next thing that happened made my jaw drop. I was frightened beyond words and my heart skipped a beat. My legs were trembling from what I saw. It was me. Lying lifelessly on the floor. My heart sank thousands of depths into the underworld to see my best friends crying beside me. Suddenly, something caught my eyes. I seemed to be holding something in the palm of my hand. It looked like rolled-up paper. I took a closer look and found out that it was my English exam paper. Suddenly, all of the pieces of the puzzle started to come together. I began to remember everything. It was just all a ferocious flashback. On that unfortunate day, my teacher returned our exam papers. The disappointment was unbearable. “Am I this bad?” questioned myself. I couldn’t take it anymore and made up my mind to take the leap. It was a chilly night that day, the moon had appeared out on the horizon and the sky was filled with stars. The wind howled and there I was, sitting on the roof of the school taking the longest sigh ever. Little did I know that I would break the hearts of my family and my best friend for that split-second decision… Student Work 213
